Terms of Service
1. Agreement to Terms
These Terms of Service ("Terms") form a binding legal agreement between you ("you" or "User") and SaveSnippets ("SaveSnippets," "we," "us," or "our") and govern your access to and use of the SaveSnippets website, application, APIs, and related digital products and services (collectively, the "Services").
By accessing or using any of the Services, you agree to be bound by these Terms and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not access or use the Services.
2. About Us
SaveSnippets operates a developer-focused platform for organizing, storing, and discovering code snippets, server credentials, and account passwords, with optional community sharing features.
We may launch additional features, sub-products, or integrations over time. Unless a specific feature publishes additional or different terms, these Terms apply uniformly across the entire Service.
3. Eligibility
You must be at least 13 years old (or older where required by local law, typically 16) to use the Services. If you are between 13 and the age of majority in your jurisdiction, you may use the Services only with the consent and supervision of a parent or legal guardian. By using the Services you represent that you have the legal capacity to enter into these Terms, and, where you act on behalf of an entity, that you have authority to bind that entity.
The Services are intended for use in jurisdictions where they are lawful. You are responsible for compliance with applicable export controls, sanctions, and local laws.
4. Accounts
Most Services require you to create an account. You agree to:
- Provide accurate, current, and complete information.
- Keep your credentials confidential and secure.
- Notify us immediately of any unauthorized access or use of your account.
- Be responsible for all activity under your account, whether or not authorized.
We may suspend or terminate your account if we suspect a violation of these Terms or applicable law. See Section 8 for important information about how account passwords interact with our zero-knowledge encrypted vaults.
5. License to Use the Services
Subject to your compliance with these Terms, SaveSnippets grants you a limited, revocable, non-exclusive, non-transferable, non-sublicensable license to access and use the Services for your personal or internal business purposes. All rights not expressly granted are reserved.
6. Acceptable Use
You agree not to, and not to permit any third party to:
- Use the Services for any unlawful, harmful, fraudulent, infringing, or offensive activity.
- Violate the rights of others, including privacy, publicity, intellectual property, or contractual rights.
- Upload, transmit, or distribute viruses, malware, spyware, ransomware, exploits, or other malicious code, including malicious code disguised as code snippets.
- Probe, scan, or test the vulnerability of any system or network, or breach security or authentication measures.
- Attempt to gain unauthorized access to any portion of the Services, other accounts, or related systems, including attempts to read other users' private or encrypted content.
- Reverse-engineer, decompile, disassemble, or otherwise attempt to derive the source code of any portion of the Services, except to the extent applicable law prohibits this restriction.
- Scrape, crawl, harvest, or otherwise extract data from the Services without express written permission, except as permitted by our
robots.txtor comparable signals. - Use automated means (bots, scripts, headless browsers) to access the Services in a manner that sends more requests than a human could reasonably produce, exceeds rate limits, or interferes with proper functioning.
- Impersonate any person or entity, or misrepresent your affiliation with a person or entity.
- Resell, rent, lease, sublicense, or otherwise commercially exploit the Services without our express written authorization.
- Use the Services to send unsolicited communications, advertising, or promotional material ("spam").
- Manipulate community signals — including but not limited to vote-stuffing, sockpuppeting, brigading, artificially inflating snippet scores, or coordinating to suppress legitimate content.
- Circumvent or interfere with our advertising, analytics, billing, or moderation systems.
- Remove, alter, or obscure any copyright, trademark, attribution, or other proprietary notices.
We may investigate and take legal action in response to violations, including suspension or termination of access, and we may report illegal conduct to law enforcement.
7. User-Generated Content
The Services allow you to submit content — including code snippets, descriptions, comments, tags, votes, profile information, avatars, and other materials ("User Content").
7.1 Ownership
You retain ownership of your User Content. You grant SaveSnippets a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free, sublicensable, and transferable license to host, store, reproduce, modify (e.g., for thumbnails or excerpts), adapt (e.g., for syntax highlighting or accessibility), publish, distribute, and display User Content for the purpose of operating, providing, improving, securing, and promoting the Services. This license terminates with respect to non-public User Content when you delete that content, except to the extent it has been re-shared by others or is required to be retained for legal or operational backup purposes.
7.2 Public vs. Private Snippets
The Services let you mark snippets as public (visible to the community, indexable by search engines, listed in the community feed, and eligible for community voting) or private (stored in your account and visible only to you, unless you choose to share a direct link). Once you make a snippet public, copies may be cached, indexed, or downloaded by other users; we cannot guarantee the removal of all such copies if you later make the snippet private or delete it.
7.3 Representations & Warranties
You represent and warrant that: (a) you own or have all necessary rights to your User Content; (b) your User Content does not infringe any third-party rights (including copyright, trademark, patent, trade secret, privacy, or publicity rights); (c) your User Content does not contain personal information of others without their consent; (d) your User Content does not contain unlawful, harassing, defamatory, obscene, or harmful material; and (e) your User Content complies with these Terms and applicable law.
7.4 Moderation
We are not obligated to review User Content, but we may remove, hide, or refuse to display User Content that we determine, in our sole discretion, violates these Terms or is otherwise objectionable. See Section 9 for details on our community moderation system.
7.5 Feedback
If you provide feedback or suggestions about the Services, you grant SaveSnippets a perpetual, worldwide, royalty-free, sublicensable license to use, modify, and exploit that feedback without obligation or compensation to you.
8. Encrypted Vaults & Recovery Keys
The Services include a Server Vault for storing server credentials and a Password Vault for storing website / service logins. Together with related per-user secrets, we refer to these as the "Vaults."
8.1 Zero-Knowledge Encryption
Vault contents (including credentials, usernames, and notes) are encrypted at rest using a per-user master key. The master key is wrapped by both (a) a key derived from your login password and (b) a one-time recovery key shown to you when your vault is first initialized. We do not store your login password, your recovery key, or any plaintext copy of the master key. This means we cannot read your vault contents, and we cannot recover them if you lose access to both your password and recovery key.
8.2 Your Responsibility for the Recovery Key
When your vault is first set up — at signup or at your first login after enabling encryption — we display a one-time recovery key. You are solely responsible for storing this recovery key in a safe place (such as a password manager, printed copy, or encrypted offline storage). If you forget your login password AND you have lost or never saved your recovery key, your encrypted vault contents are permanently unrecoverable. We have no technical means to assist. By using the Services you acknowledge this trade-off and accept full responsibility for safeguarding the recovery key.
8.3 Regenerating a Recovery Key
You may regenerate your recovery key at any time from your account security settings. Regenerating invalidates the previous recovery key immediately. You are responsible for saving the new key.
8.4 No Liability for Lost Vault Contents
We are not liable for the loss, deletion, or inaccessibility of vault contents caused by your loss of credentials, your loss of recovery keys, your decision to wipe or reset your account, or any other action or inaction within your control. Our liability for any vault-related loss is further limited as set out in Section 16.
8.5 Backups
You are responsible for maintaining your own backups of any critical data (using the JSON export feature, where available on your plan). Our internal backups exist for disaster-recovery purposes only and are not a substitute for user-side backups.
9. Community Moderation
Public snippets are subject to community moderation, including up/down voting, user-submitted flags, automated detection of disallowed content (such as image-embedded materials in code blocks), and administrative review.
9.1 Voting
Any signed-in user meeting our minimum-account-age threshold may vote on public snippets. Vote-manipulation attempts (including but not limited to multiple accounts, coordinated downvoting, or automation) violate Section 6 and may result in vote nullification, score adjustments, and account suspension.
9.2 Flagging & Removal
Snippets that fall below our visibility thresholds (whether through community voting, flag accumulation, automated detection, or administrative review) may be hidden from the community feed or removed entirely. Repeated removals may be cause for account suspension under Section 18.
9.3 Appeals
If your content was hidden or removed and you believe this was in error, contact support@savesnippets.com. We will review reasonable, good-faith appeals.
10. Intellectual Property
The Services and all related content (excluding User Content) — including software, source code, text, graphics, logos, marks, designs, layouts, audio, video, and the selection and arrangement thereof — are owned by SaveSnippets or its licensors and are protected by copyright, trademark, trade dress, and other intellectual property laws.
"SaveSnippets" and our logos are trademarks of SaveSnippets. You may not use these marks without our prior written consent.
11. Third-Party Services & Links
The Services may contain links to, or be integrated with, third-party websites, applications, or services not owned or controlled by SaveSnippets — including but not limited to payment processors (Stripe), advertising networks (Google AdSense), analytics providers, font and CDN providers, and external code/documentation sites linked to from user snippets.
We do not endorse and are not responsible for the content, products, services, or practices of any third party. Your interactions with third parties are solely between you and the third party, subject to that third party's terms and privacy policies. We are not liable for any loss or damage arising from such interactions.
12. Advertising & Commercial Relationships
Free-plan and anonymous users may see advertisements from third-party advertising networks (currently Google AdSense). These ads support the cost of providing the free tier. Paid subscribers are shown an ad-free experience.
The Services may also include affiliate links, sponsored placements, or other commercial relationships. When you click a qualifying affiliate link and complete a purchase or other action, SaveSnippets may earn a commission or referral fee at no additional cost to you.
We disclose material connections in accordance with the U.S. Federal Trade Commission's Endorsement Guides (16 CFR Part 255). Compensation does not affect our editorial or product decisions. The third-party merchant is solely responsible for the goods or services you purchase through any advertisement or affiliate link; your purchase is governed by the merchant's own terms.
13. Payments & Subscriptions
13.1 Plans & Pricing
SaveSnippets offers a Free plan and paid subscription tiers (currently Hobby and Indie) with monthly, quarterly, and annual billing cycles. Current pricing, features, and limits are displayed on the Pricing page and form part of these Terms.
13.2 Billing
Payments are processed by Stripe, Inc. We do not store full payment card numbers on our servers; we store only a customer identifier and the last four digits of your card for display purposes. You authorize us (and our payment processor) to charge your designated payment method for all applicable fees and taxes.
13.3 Auto-Renewal
Unless cancelled, paid subscriptions automatically renew at the then-current rate at the end of each billing cycle. We will not provide separate notice of upcoming renewals beyond making your renewal date visible in your account.
13.4 Cancellation
You may cancel a paid subscription at any time from your account's billing settings. Cancellation takes effect at the end of your then-current paid billing period; you keep paid-plan access until that date, then drop automatically to the Free plan. You may also reactivate a cancelled subscription at any time before the period-end date.
13.5 Refunds
Since you can cancel anytime and keep your paid access through the end of the current billing period, we do not issue refunds for partial billing periods. The Free plan is always available — you can downgrade to it at any time and continue using SaveSnippets at no cost. Refunds may be granted in our sole discretion in cases of accidental duplicate charges, billing errors, or where required by applicable consumer-protection law.
13.6 Plan Changes & Prorations
Upgrades to a higher tier take effect immediately and are pre-charged on a prorated basis for the remainder of your current cycle. Downgrades take effect at the end of the current cycle (with any unused credit carried forward against future invoices, where applicable).
13.7 Failed Payments
If a renewal payment fails, Stripe will automatically retry the charge over several weeks. During this period your subscription status is "past due" and your paid-plan access continues. If all retries fail, your subscription will be cancelled and your account will move to the Free plan; previously stored vault and snippet data is preserved but may become subject to Free-plan limits.
13.8 Taxes
Listed prices may not include sales tax, VAT, GST, or similar taxes. You are responsible for any applicable taxes or duties imposed by your jurisdiction.
14. DMCA Notice & Takedown
SaveSnippets respects the intellectual property rights of others and expects users to do the same. We respond to clear notices of alleged copyright infringement in accordance with the U.S. Digital Millennium Copyright Act of 1998 ("DMCA"), 17 U.S.C. § 512.
The full DMCA notice and counter-notice procedures, repeat-infringer policy, and contact details are set out on our dedicated DMCA Policy page.
15. Disclaimers
To the fullest extent permitted by law, SaveSnippets disclaims all warranties, including the implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, title, accuracy, and non-infringement, and any warranties arising from course of dealing or usage of trade.
We do not warrant that the Services will be uninterrupted, secure, error-free, or free of harmful components; that defects will be corrected; that our backups will recover all data in every scenario; or that the results of using the Services will meet your requirements. Any code, snippet, or other material downloaded or obtained through the Services is at your own risk; you are solely responsible for evaluating whether to run, deploy, or otherwise rely on it.
Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion of certain warranties. To the extent any warranty cannot be disclaimed under applicable law, the scope and duration of such warranty will be the minimum permitted.
16. Limitation of Liability
The limitations in this section apply to any theory of liability, whether based on warranty, contract, statute, tort (including negligence), or otherwise, and apply to all claims relating to vault contents, lost data, lost recovery keys, failed integrations, downtime, security incidents, or any other Service-related matter. Some jurisdictions do not allow the limitation or exclusion of certain damages; in those jurisdictions, the foregoing limitations apply to the maximum extent permitted.
17. Indemnification
You agree to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless SaveSnippets, its affiliates, and their respective officers, directors, employees, contractors, agents, licensors, and suppliers from and against any claims, liabilities, damages, judgments, awards, losses, costs, expenses, or fees (including reasonable attorneys' fees) arising out of or relating to: (a) your violation of these Terms; (b) your use of the Services; (c) your User Content (including infringement claims arising from public snippets); or (d) your violation of any law or the rights of any third party.
18. Termination
We may suspend or terminate your access to the Services at any time, with or without notice, for any reason — including if we believe you have violated these Terms or applicable law, if your account has been inactive for an extended period, or if continued service is no longer commercially viable. You may stop using the Services at any time.
Upon termination: (a) your right to access the Services ends; (b) we may delete your account, snippets, vault contents, and other data, subject to our retention obligations; (c) any sums owed to us at the time of termination remain owed; and (d) Sections that by their nature should survive termination (including 7, 8, 10, 15, 16, 17, 19, 20, and 22) will survive.
19. Governing Law & Venue
These Terms and any dispute arising out of or related to them or the Services are governed by the laws of the State of Texas and the federal laws of the United States, without regard to conflict-of-laws principles. The United Nations Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods does not apply.
Subject to the binding arbitration provisions in Section 20, the exclusive jurisdiction and venue for any action not subject to arbitration will be the state and federal courts located in Texas, United States, and you irrevocably submit to the personal jurisdiction of those courts.
20. Dispute Resolution & Arbitration
20.1 Informal Resolution
Before filing any claim, you agree to try to resolve the dispute informally by contacting us at hello@savesnippets.com. We will attempt in good faith to resolve the dispute through correspondence within sixty (60) days.
20.2 Binding Arbitration
If we cannot resolve the dispute informally, you and SaveSnippets agree to resolve any dispute, claim, or controversy arising out of or relating to these Terms or the Services through final and binding arbitration, except as otherwise stated. Arbitration will be administered by the American Arbitration Association ("AAA") under its Consumer Arbitration Rules. The arbitration will take place in Texas, United States, or via telephone or videoconference where available. The arbitrator's decision will be final and may be entered as a judgment in any court of competent jurisdiction.
20.3 Class Action Waiver
20.4 Exceptions
Either party may bring an individual action in small-claims court. Either party may also seek injunctive or equitable relief in court to prevent the actual or threatened infringement, misappropriation, or violation of its intellectual property rights.
20.5 Opt-Out
You may opt out of this arbitration agreement by sending written notice to hello@savesnippets.com within thirty (30) days of first accepting these Terms. Your notice must include your name, address, account email, and a clear statement that you wish to opt out.
20.6 Severability of Arbitration
If any portion of this Section 20 is found to be unenforceable, the unenforceable portion will be severed and the remaining portions will remain in effect, except that if the class-action waiver is found unenforceable, then the entire arbitration agreement will be void.
21. Modifications
We may modify these Terms or the Services at any time. If we make material changes to these Terms, we will provide notice (such as updating the "Last updated" date, posting a banner, or sending an email to your account address). Your continued use of the Services after the changes become effective constitutes acceptance. If you do not agree, your sole remedy is to stop using the Services and, if applicable, cancel any paid subscription.
22. Miscellaneous
- Entire Agreement. These Terms, the Privacy Policy, the DMCA Policy, and the documents they reference constitute the entire agreement between you and SaveSnippets regarding the Services and supersede any prior agreements.
- Severability. If any provision is held invalid or unenforceable, the remaining provisions will remain in full force and effect.
- No Waiver. Our failure to enforce a right or provision is not a waiver of that right or provision.
- Assignment. You may not assign these Terms without our prior written consent. We may assign these Terms freely, including in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets.
- Force Majeure. We are not liable for any delay or failure to perform due to causes beyond our reasonable control, including acts of God, war, terrorism, riots, embargoes, acts of civil or military authorities, fire, floods, accidents, pandemics, network or infrastructure failures, internet outages, third-party service outages, strikes, or shortages of transportation, facilities, fuel, energy, labor, or materials.
- Notices. Notices to you may be made via email or posting on the Services. Notices to us must be sent to hello@savesnippets.com.
- Headings. Section titles are for convenience and have no legal effect.
- Independent Contractors. No partnership, joint venture, employment, or agency relationship is created by these Terms.
